Emergencies may include natural disasters like floods, tornados, or storms. It can also include infectious diseases, accidents, or water contamination or shortages.

You can't predict an emergency, but you can prepare for one. Take action today!

The Township is required to develop an Emergency Management Program to ensure that we are prepared for an emergency. The program includes an Emergency Management Plan, public education activities, and the appointment of a Emergency Management Committee.

All Township documents can be made available in an accessible format upon request.

Emergency Preparedness

The Township Emergency Plan is reviewed on an annual basis by members of the Emergency Management Committee in collaboration with Community Emergency Management Coordinator.

What is an Emergency?

The Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act defines an emergency as:

“a situation or an impending situation that constitutes a danger of major proportions that could result in serious harm to persons or substantial damage to property and that is caused by the forces of nature, a disease or other health risk, an accident or an act whether intentional or otherwise.”

The Mayor, as the head of council, has the power to declare a state of emergency. The Mayor will consult with the Municipal Control Group and review the Emergency Plan to make the declaration.

Be Prepared

Being prepared starts with you being responsible for the safety of yourself and your family.

Every family should have a 72-hour emergency kit. It should have everything you and your family would need to be safe and take care of yourselves for at least three days immediately following an emergency.

You should also develop a household emergency plan.

Fire

The Township of Georgian Bluffs contracts for fire services through the Inter-township Fire Board and the South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department.

The Inter-Township Fire Department covers the south end of the Township and is located at the following address:

The Inter-Township Fire Department is comprised of one full-time Fire Chief, one full-time Deputy Chief, and 39 dedicated volunteer members.

Burn Permit Application

All open air fires require a burn permit and must comply with By-law 14-2010, being a by-law to regulate Open Air Fires within the Township of Georgian Bluffs.
