Celebrating Georgian Bluffs’ 2023 Volunteers of the Year!

Georgian Bluffs is pleased to announce the winners of the 2023 Volunteer of the Year awards, celebrating outstanding community contributions.

This recognition program, initiated in December 2021, honours volunteers who have made significant impacts in the Georgian Bluffs community. Each recipient is presented with a certificate, and asked to choose a community organization that will be given a $100 donation in their name.

This year, we are proud to recognize Kim Robins as the recipient of the Community Service Award, and Danuta Valleau as the recipient of the Lifetime Volunteer Award.

Kim Robins, a retired Educational Assistant, has dedicated over 20 years to volunteer work at OSDSS. Her commitment to ensuring the availability of school food programs and orchestrating creative fundraisers has been instrumental in combating student food insecurity. Despite her humility, Kim's work is widely recognized and extends well beyond the school, with contributions to the Owen Sound DIA committee and providing respite care for families. She has chosen to donate to the OSDSS Food for Thought program.

Danuta Valleau's volunteerism spans various community programs. As a Trail Steward for the Sydenham Bruce Trail, she organizes hikes and snowshoe treks. Her involvement with the Climate Action Team, Earth Day events, and educating youth about climate change showcases her profound dedication to environmental stewardship. She also works with the Alzheimer’s Society, with a focus on physical and cognitive health. She has chosen to donate to the United Way of Bruce Grey.

“Your dedication, compassion, and enthusiasm are what make Georgian Bluffs a vibrant and caring community,” said Mayor Sue Carleton. “Congratulations to Kim and Danuta, and a sincere thank you to every volunteer who has contributed to our community's growth and spirit.”

We extend our heartfelt thanks to this year’s recipients, and to all the volunteers who continue to enrich our community. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and they help make Georgian Bluffs a vibrant and welcoming place to live.
