Georgian Bluffs is excited to announce that the highly successful FoodCycler Program is back, with 100 new units now available for purchase.
In 2023, Georgian Bluffs partnered with Food Cycle Science to introduce this innovative indoor composting technology to the community, helping to divert food waste from landfills. The initial phase of the program saw 100 units sold in 2023 and resulted in 27.9 metric tonnes (MT) of food waste being diverted. Due to its success, the program was extended into 2024, with the first batch of 100 units selling out in two weeks earlier this year. We’ve now restocked with an additional 100 units available for purchase.
The FoodCycler unit heats and grinds food waste into a dry, odourless, and nutrient-rich by-product that can be used in gardens and houseplants. Residents who purchase a unit are encouraged to track the amount of waste they divert over a 12-week period and complete a survey to provide feedback on their experience with the program.
"We’re thrilled to see the continued success of the FoodCycler Program in Georgian Bluffs,” said Niall Lobley, Chief Administrative Officer. “This initiative offers a practical, impactful solution for reducing household waste, empowering households to contribute to environmental sustainability right from their kitchens. By participating, you’re not just reducing your carbon footprint—you’re playing a vital role in fostering a greener, more sustainable future for our community.”
FoodCyclers are available for $150 or $300 plus HST, depending on capacity, with 100 units available on a first-come, first-served basis. They can be purchased at the Township Office, 177964 Grey Road 18, during regular business hours, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Payments are accepted by cash, cheque, or debit. Earth Machine and Green Cone outdoor composters are also available for sale.
