The Township of Georgian Bluffs has taken a step towards a greener and more sustainable future through community support of the GB Goes Green program, with 13 native trees planted at the Township office.
The GB Goes Green Initiative, which encourages residents to complete online carbon footprint profiles, had a great turnout with over 65 profiles submitted. With a commitment to plant 1 native tree for every 5 profiles completed, the Township has planted 13 native trees at the office property, marking our progress towards a greener and more sustainable Georgian Bluffs.
The tree planting ceremony, held at the Township of Georgian Bluffs Office on October 18, brought together members of Georgian Bluffs Council, senior staff, the Georgian Bluffs Climate Action Team, and representatives from NeighbourWoods North. The tree planting was a celebration of community, a shared commitment to the environment, and a symbol of what can be achieved when people work together.
“The future of Georgian Bluffs is bright, and we're not stopping here”, said Mayor Sue Carleton. “As more residents complete their carbon footprint profiles, more trees will grace our landscape, making Georgian Bluffs an even more vibrant and sustainable place to live.”
The Township of Georgian Bluffs and the Georgian Bluffs Climate Action Team hope to see numbers over 100 by early 2024, so more trees can be planted in the spring.
