Location: Wiarton and Oxenden Drinking Water Distribution Systems
Date and Time : Weekdays during the month of November 2023 from 8 :00 AM to 5:00 PM
Regular flushing is part of the best practices of a comprehensive water management program. During normal use, water moves slowly through the water distribution system and may cause naturally occurring sediment to accumulate in the pipes. Flushing from fire hydrants or blow off valves increases water velocity through water mains and helps with the removal of accumulated sediments to improve water quality.
The Wiarton and Oxenden water distribution systems are flushed by forcing water through the main at a higher velocity and then discharged through fire hydrants or blow off valves until water runs clear. The flushed water is de-chlorinated before entering the storm drain system.
Please be advised that this flushing exercise may cause lower than normal water pressure and some water discoloration. If you experience any discoloration, please run cold water from all your faucets for 5 minutes or until water runs clear and do not use hot water until cold water runs clear. Please also refrain from doing laundry until the water runs clear again.
