The Township contracts Waste Management to provide a curbside collection service for common household waste that can be recycled, as well as common household garbage that cannot be recycled.
Collection occurs on Mondays for residents of the former Keppel Township and community of Shallow Lake, and on Wednesdays for residents of the former Townships of Sarawak and Derby.
Use our Curbside Pickup Tool to find your collection day. Waste Collection Schedules are also available and are mailed to residents annually.
Curbside collection begins at 7am. Please ensure all waste to be collected is placed at the curbside before 7am.
Please make sure you follow the Collection Guidelines below to help make sure your waste gets collected.
All Township documents can be made available in an accessible format upon request.

Collection Guidelines
|
- Please set out recycling and garbage before 7am on your collection day. Please do not set this out earlier than 5pm the day before collection.
- Collection times will vary. Weather, road conditions, and equipment issues all impact the time collection might take place. Generally speaking, waste collection will be completed by 5pm on your collection day.
- Different trucks might be used to collect different waste items, so please wait until 5pm before reporting a Missed Collection.
- Place garbage bags, and blue boxes at the road edge as close to the street as possible, at the end of your driveway.
- Make sure your garbage tags are visible.
- Garbage bags may be placed in a garbage can for collection. Each bag in the can should weigh less than 22kg and must display a garbage tag.
- In winter, do not place on snowbanks or in areas where they will be covered ins now during snow removal.
- Keep items visible so that approaching garbage trucks can see your waste. Remember, collection may be occurring in the dark.
- Do not overfill boxes or bags. Township waste is all collected manually meaning it must be lifted into trucks by staff.
- Make sure you put the right items into your Blue Box and Garbage bags. Anything that cannot be collected at the curbside should be disposed of using Other Disposal Options.
- If your collection has been missed, please see Missed Collections below. Please bring back in any missed collection at 5pm on the day after your scheduled collection day, and take back out on your next scheduled collection day.

Missed And Refused Collection
|
Sometimes, garbage and/or recycling may not be collected. This can be inconvenient and annoying and the Township apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. There are a number of reasons this might occur.
- Check your bag or blue box for a ‘Oops Tag’. Oops tags are left on garbage or recycling that cannot be collected. This might be because items were too heavy to be collected, or the wrong items were placed in a Blue Box. If you got a Oops Tag, please bring your garbage/recycling back to the house, correct the issue and place out on your next scheduled collection day.
- If your garbage/recycling was placed at the curbside by 7am on your collection day, and was put out following our Collection Guidelines, your collection may have been accidentally missed. This might be as a result of staffing pressures, equipment issues or weather-related issues. Unfortunately, sometimes things happen that mean collection cannot be completed as we all hope. If this has happened to you, please call Waste Management directly at 1-888-730-3344. If you cannot speak to a staff person, please leave a message and request a call back.
- For missed collections please call Waste Management directly at 1-888-730-3344.
If you have experienced a missed collection, please call Waste Management and follow their direction. Please make sure any uncollected garbage or recycling is brought back to your property, away from the curbside, before 5pm the day after your scheduled collection. Please do not leave garbage/recycling at the curbside.
