Discover how everyday choices at home can help build a more sustainable future. The Greener Homes Tour invites you inside a variety of homes across Georgian Bluffs, from new builds to heritage houses (and even an off-the-grid property), all showcasing innovative green technologies and practices.


From solar panels and EV charging stations to native plant gardens, water conservation systems, and high-efficiency heating and cooling, you’ll see firsthand how simple changes can lower energy costs, reduce environmental impact, and transform the way we live.

Tour Stops

This home features an impressive blend of renewable energy and sustainable living practices, including solar net metering, an off-grid solar system with lithium battery storage, and two EVs with a level 2 charger. Heating is provided by a ducted heat pump and a minisplit in the basement, with solar hot water and an efficient wood stove for emergencies. The outdoor space includes an organic garden, composting system, and fully electric lawn equipment. They recently switched to Hydro One’s ultra-low rate plan.

Built in 2018, this home incorporates passive solar design with strategic window placement, modern insulation, and high air-sealing standards. It runs on solar panels through a net metering system, with air source heat pumps for both HVAC and hot water. Though the interior will not be viewable due to a lively foster pup, photos will be available. The property also features a Ford Lightning F150 EV, pollinator gardens, reduced lawn mowing, and information on funding support. Small-scale Phragmites management is also underway.

This 1951 cottage has been converted into a modern, energy-efficient home using a cold air mini split heat pump. Two locations on the property offer level 2 EV charging for their vehicle.

A true passive, off-grid home, this property operates primarily on solar power, currently supported by propane. The Martins are expanding from 16kW to 30kW of solar capacity, aiming for complete solar-powered operation. Their setup includes 22 kWh of overnight storage, EV charging, thermal storage, and plans for future vehicle-to-home integration. Rainwater collection is also in place. Ken Philps Climate Care will be available onsite.

This 1906 farmhouse is now equipped with a cold air source heat pump using the original ductwork, as well as a level 2 EV charger. Solar panels on the barn feed energy back into the local grid. Crose Mechanical will be present to discuss the installation and operation.

This restored 1880 log home and studio combines historical charm with modern sustainability. Both structures have mini split ductless heat pumps and a roof-mounted net metering solar array. Other features include an electric bike, organic garden, two hoop houses for year-round greens, composting, native tree plantings, and displays of upcycled clothing. Blackline Power and Riddell Mechanical will be on-site.

This 1880s-era farmhouse is heated with geothermal technology. The homeowners are currently building a garage to house their EV and level 2 charger.
