Big Trees, Bigger Impact: 24 Trees Donated to Owen Sound Hospital for Naturalization Project

Thanks to a community collaboration, 24 large trees have found a new home at the Owen Sound Hospital through a donation facilitated by the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

These trees were donated by Connon Nurseries, who partner with municipalities to plant trees that would have otherwise been discarded due to visual defects. Georgian Bluffs connected the nursery to local volunteers from NeighbourWoods North, who quickly stepped in to make the project happen. The volunteer group covered the cost of delivery, arranged the necessary equipment, and coordinated the planting.

The trees were planted on hospital grounds as part of an ongoing naturalization effort. Volunteers guided the trees into place, added soil and mulch, and secured them with protective wrapping.

“This is a great example of what’s possible when people and organizations come together to enhance the environment,” said Riel Warrilow, Environmental Initiatives Officer at Georgian Bluffs. “Sometimes the best thing we can do is connect the dots.”

Georgian Bluffs is committed to leading sustainability initiatives through practical partnerships and community-led action, and we thank NeighbourWoods North and Connon Nurseries who made this happen.
