Grey Bruce OPP Detachment Board Commends Emergency Responders Following Georgian Bay Ice Rescue
The Grey Bruce OPP Detachment Board is recognizing the exceptional efforts of emergency responders following the successful rescue of individuals stranded on an ice shelf on Georgian Bay on March 8, 2026.
On behalf of the Board, Chair Gerry Solursh extends sincere appreciation to all agencies involved in the coordinated response, including the Ontario Provincial Police, local fire departments, paramedic services, and search and rescue partners.
“This incident was a powerful example of emergency services working together under very challenging and dynamic conditions,” said Chair Solursh. “The professionalism, coordination, and dedication demonstrated by all responders ensured that everyone involved was brought to safety.”
The response involved multiple agencies from across the region, highlighting the strength of mutual aid partnerships and the importance of preparedness in emergency situations.
The Board would also like to extend special thanks to Cobble Beach Resort for stepping forward to act as a staging and support area, providing warmth, food, and a safe space for those involved and the responding teams.
“Incidents like this demonstrate the importance of strong coordination between emergency services and partner agencies,” said Detachment Commander Marla Barfoot. “Our priority is always the safety of those involved, and I’m proud of the professionalism and teamwork shown by all responders in bringing this situation to a safe conclusion.”
