ITFD & Grey Bruce OPP take the Polar Plunge and Face off in a Hockey Game for Special Olympics Ontario

‘Tis season for Freezin’! The Inter Township Fire Department and Grey Bruce OPP Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Ontario is back on Saturday, March 7, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Shallow Lake.

Georgian Bluffs will once again be hosting the annual Police vs. Fire Charity Hockey game, followed by the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics. The festivities will be held at Shallow Lake Community Centre, located at 550 Princess Street in Shallow Lake.

This year features an exciting rematch on the ice between the Grey Bruce OPP and the Inter Township Fire Department. Come out to see the emergency services hockey match-up and cheer for your favourite team! Are you team red or blue?

You can join in the plunge too! Register your team and select your walk-up music starting at 1 p.m. when the puck drops, followed by the icy dip at 2:00 p.m. If you choose to take the plunge in support of Special Olympians in Ontario, you won’t be cold for long; this year Northern Leisure Port Elgin is providing a Sauna as a warmup station for plungers!

If you’re still cold, or you want to warm your belly while you watch the plunge, enjoy free hot drinks during the event. This year we encourage you to lug-your-own-mug for the complimentary refreshments courtesy of the Shallow Lake Minor Hockey League canteen. Bring your own container for a special reward.

1:00 p.m.:

• Registration opens: Sign up for the plunge with your team – or as an individual – and pick your own walk-up song for added motivation.
• Puck Drop for the Grey Bruce OPP vs Inter Township Fire Department Charity Hockey Game

2:00 p.m.:

• Take the Plunge! The moment of anticipation when participants take the icy plunge for Special Olympics
• Participants can warm up in a sauna provided by Northern Leisure Port Elgin

Free hot drinks, a sauna, and a great cause; what more could you ask for? Get Freezin’ for a Reason and assemble your plunge team to join this one-of-a-kind fundraiser in support of Special Olympics Ontario, where all proceeds go towards funding Special Olympians in our area and around Ontario. 

Donations will be accepted on site, but you can donate before hand or register as a team on the Polar Plunge website here: Grey Bruce 2026 Polar Plunge. The Township of Georgian Bluffs Staff Team will be making their contribution by taking the plunge along with all the other brave participants.
