Spring Gravel Road Work Underway in Georgian Bluffs

With spring now in full swing, Georgian Bluffs has launched its annual gravel road maintenance program, with a focus on improving drainage, restoring road structure, and repairing winter wear.

New this year, the Township is introducing a gravel retrieval process along some roads to reclaim valuable road surface material that has built up along the roadside. During the winter, snowplowing and regular traffic push gravel away from the centre of the road, forming berms that can prevent proper drainage. When water sits on the road surface, it increases the risk of potholes and structural damage.

To address this, crews are using specialized equipment to remove the berms and pull the displaced gravel back onto the road. This process can cause some vegetation to be pulled onto the shoulder, which will be left to dry for several days before it is removed.

With the spring weather, grading operations will be underway as well. Grading helps restore the proper shape of the road, removes potholes and allows water to drain off the road and into the ditch. This process smooths the surface, improves driving conditions, and extends the life of the road.

Residents are reminded to drive with caution near crews and equipment. If you notice road sections needing attention, please report them through Contact GB at www.georgianbluffs.ca/contactGB.
