New Online Burn Permit System Now Live in Georgian Bluffs

Georgian Bluffs and the Inter Township Fire Department have launched a new, easy-to-use online portal for burn permits. Starting this spring, all residents are asked to register for their burn permits at georgianbluffs.burnpermits.com. Permits are free of charge and available 24/7 from any computer or mobile device.

Permits are required for all open-air fires, including fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, brush fires, bonfires, and controlled agricultural burns. Backyard recreational fires are welcome in Georgian Bluffs, but they must be registered under a valid permit even if they are only used occasionally.

“Moving to this new online system is about keeping things simple and safe,” said Fire Chief Jeff Gautreau. “You can apply once for the year, and the system lets us provide updates like fire bans directly to the community. It’s one more way we’re supporting a safer Georgian Bluffs.”

Once your permit is approved, you must notify the Fire Department each time you plan to burn, except for small recreational fires in approved fire pits or outdoor fireplaces. All other fire types, including brush burning, bonfires, demolition, and controlled agricultural burns must be reported before lighting. You can report your burn quickly and easily through your georgianbluffs.burnpermits.com account, or by calling 1-855-690-0777. The by-law ensures all open-air fires follow safety standards, including setback distances and having proper extinguishing tools on hand.

The online portal provides a streamlined system, and helps the Inter Township Fire Department track and manage burn activity more efficiently across Georgian Bluffs. It also allows the Township to notify permit holders of fire risk levels or burning restrictions in real time.
