Georgian Bluffs Residents Invited to Take Part in #WasteReductionWeek
What if less of what we throw away was actually wasted? During Waste Reduction Week, taking place October 19 to 25, Georgian Bluffs is joining communities across Canada in promoting waste reduction, resource conservation, and the principles of a circular economy, where materials are reused, recycled, and kept out of landfills whenever possible.
Throughout #WasteReductionWeek, Georgian Bluffs will share interactive social media content, including daily tips, sorting challenges with prizes up for grabs, and educational posts designed to help residents make the most of the Township's three-cart collection system: garbage, recycling, and organics.
Having rolled out the new three-cart waste management program in Georgian Bluffs earlier this year, residents are reminded that proper sorting is a small action that makes a big impact. With items like food scraps (including meat and bones), pet waste, yard trimmings and paper products being accepted in the organic green bins, and recycling carts accepting paper, glass, metal, plastic and foam materials, it’s easier than ever to help divert waste from landfills through these recycling and green bin programs. Additionally, proper sorting helps keep the program more cost-effective for taxpayers.
The #WasteReductionWeek campaign also supports the Township's Strategic Plan commitment to reducing emissions, enhancing resilience, and adopting sustainable practices to protect the environment for future generations.
Residents are encouraged to follow the Township on Facebook and Instagram to participate in daily activities, test their waste-sorting knowledge, and share what they're doing at home to reduce waste.

Quote:
"Most households are already taking steps to reduce waste, but many recyclable and compostable items still end up in the garbage. Waste Reduction Week is a great opportunity to learn more about where items belong and how small changes at home can make a significant difference for our community and the environment."
