Township Raises Every Child Matters Flags for Truth and Reconciliation

Georgian Bluffs is commemorating the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30 by flying Every Child Matters flags throughout the month of September. Flying the flag symbolizes the Township's ongoing support for truth, reconciliation, and remembrance.

Every Child Matters flags will be flown at three key locations in Georgian Bluffs: Township Administrative Office on Grey Road 18, Shallow Lake Arena on Highway 6/Princess Street, and the Kemble Women's Institute lookout on Grey Road 1.

In September 2022, Georgian Bluffs Council passed a motion dedicated to formally recognizing September 30 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day provides an important opportunity for all Canadians to reflect on the treatment of Indigenous communities and to honour residential school survivors, their families, and communities by sharing their stories.

Georgian Bluffs encourages everyone to explore resources this month to deepen their understanding of the past, present, and future relationship between Canada and First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities, particularly the histories of Treaties 45 ½ , 72, 82 and 93 that cover parts of the Township. Residents are also encouraged to seek out and participate in local events marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, such as at the Gichi-Name Wiikwedong Reconciliation Garden at Kelso Beach at Nawash Park.
