Big Bay Memorial Wall |
The Big Bay Cemetery Memorial Wall was erected as an opportunity to memorialize people who have passed, and offer a quiet place of reflection and remembrance for family and friends. The wall is located on Township owned property immediately to the east of the cemetery, of which does not form part of the actual cemetery. The property upon which the wall is erected cannot be used for burials or scattering of remains.
To arrange an inscription on the Big Bay Memorial Wall, please contact the Township.
Note: a $75.00 processing fee applies to all inscriptions, along with fees to be determined by the inscribing party.

Where to Start |
Why is pre-planning important? |
Making pre-need arrangements offers a variety of benefits. While many invest in end-of-life planning in the form of retirement funds and wills, burial planning is often left out of the equation. Yet neglecting this important step can leave your loved ones with the stress and cost of making arrangements during an already difficult time. Pre-need arrangements offer peace of mind, and can be arranged through contacting the Township. |
What am I buying? |
It is important to realize that you do not actually own the plot or niche you purchase. You are purchasing a perpetual lease with rights of use. The common term is "right of interment". You do, however, own any marker or monument that you purchase and place on the lot. |
What are the obligations for maintenance? |
Township Staff routinely maintain the cemetery grounds, including grass cutting, trimming and overall aesthetic maintenance. Maintenance of artificial floral arrangements or plantings are the responsibility of the interment rights holders or decedents.
When purchasing rights to a plot, you are also charged a Care and Maintenance fee, of which is a provincially legislated fee. Care and Maintenance fees are deposited into a trust account, and used for the perpetual maintenance of the cemetery. For further information regarding Care and Maintenance fees, contact the Township.
|
Do I need to buy a plot or can I be buried in an established family plot? |
Each scenario is different. Depending upon the wishes of the interment right holder, you may or may not have rights of interment to the plot in question.
Contact the Township for further information regarding establishing rights of interment.

Burial and Cremation Options |
Choosing between burial and cremation is an extremely personal decision. At the Mount Pleasant, Oxenden and Boyd Cemeteries we provide three interment options:

- Cremation Interment in a Columbarium Niche
- Cremation Interment in Ground (plot)
Burials |
Standard casket burials require the purchase of a plot or proof of plot ownership if the burial is taking place within a family plot.
The Township of Georgian Bluffs does not permit double depth burials.

Purchasing of Rights Pre-Need |
In order to ease the burden placed on loved ones, the Township offers the option of pre-paying for burial arrangements before they are required. This provides families with peace of mind and removes some of the financial burden.
If you are interested in discussing the option of pre-paying for a burial, please contact the Township.
