What Goes Where

Sorting your waste correctly helps reduce reduce the amount of waste that ends up in the landfill, and supports recycling and composting so our waste is disposed of in the most environmentally responsible way possible.

Recycling

Recycling collection is now managed by Circular Materials Ontario, and there are more types of packaging than ever that can now go in your recycling bin. Use the Recycle Coach below to see if an item is recyclable.

Organics Bin

Beginning in July of 2026, Organics will be picked up weekly for Georgian Bluffs Residents. The Organics Bin or "Green Bin" makes it easy for you to divert organic waste from landfills, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and turn food scraps, soiled paper, and other compostable materials into useful compost, all while protecting the environment and reducing overall waste.

✔️ Food Scraps – Fruits, vegetables, eggshells, coffee grounds, tea bags, meat, bones, dairy

✔️ Soiled Paper – Napkins, paper towels, paper plates

✔️ Pet Waste – Includes small animal poop, cat litter, wood shavings or pellets (like from a hamster cage). Must be alone or in certified compostable pet waste bags; biodegradable bags are NOT accepted

✔️ Other Compostable Items – Wooden stir sticks, popsicle sticks, certified compostable bags

Note: In winter, please make sure the contents are not frozen or sticking to the bin. Green Bins with frozen contents may not be emptied completely.
