The Township of Georgian Bluffs advises residents served by the Oxenden Drinking Water Distribution System that a leak detection exercise will be conducted just after midnight on July 17, 2026, between 12:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m.
The Inter Township Fire Department is reminding all residents to take extra precautions as an Air Quality Advisory remains in effect for our area. The Inter Township Fire Department is asking residents to avoid outdoor burning whenever possible until conditions improve. Reducing unnecessary burning helps improve air quality and lowers the risk of accidental wildland fires.
An Orange Warning for southwestern Ontario has been issued by Environment Canada due to very poor air quality caused by smoke from wildfires in northwestern Ontario. Georgian Bluffs has opened two air quality relief centres in response to the warning: Shallow Lake Community Centre and Council Chambers at the Township Office.
Construction work has officially begun on the Washroom Renovation Project at the Shallow Lake Community Centre & Ball Diamond. These upgrades are designed to improve accessibility, functionality, and overall user experience for residents and visitors who use the facilities throughout the year.
Residents and motorists are advised that construction work for the Kemble Culvert Replacement Project is now underway in Kemble.
The intersection of Kemble Rock Road and Concession 20 will be closed to through traffic starting Thursday, July 9, and remain closed until early September 2026. Local access will be maintained for residents and emergency services, and detour signage will be in place. The official detour route can be found on the Township’s Capital Projects webpage at georgianbluffs.ca/capitalprojects, and on Municipal511.
Residents are reminded to drink plenty of water, avoid outdoor activity during peak heat, wear lightweight clothing, and check in on neighbours and loved ones who may be at risk. If you need a place to cool off, stop by one of the cooling locations:
Georgian Bluffs Annual Canada Day Celebration at Big Bay dock is set to take place this year on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Residents and guests are invited to take part in the Georgian Bluffs Canada Day tradition of raising the Canadian flag, singing O Canada, and of course enjoying a free Canadian breakfast all on the Big Bay dock to start the holiday off right.
Waste Management was not able to complete the scheduled pickup in parts of the Township on Monday, June 15, 2026 due to equipment malfunctioning.
Game on in Georgian Bluffs! The Township is hosting the Annual Longest Day of Play Event at Shallow Lake Arena on June 21, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event is all about getting active, having fun, and trying new activities!
Georgian Bluffs is grading gravel roads and applying calcium chloride dust suppressant across the Township over the next two weeks.
